Annapolis, the capital of Maryland and heart of Anne Arundel County, is located 28 miles east of Washington, D.C. It is the closest state capital to the nation’s capital. The city is a part of the Atlantic Coastal Plain and is relatively flat, with the highest point being only 50 feet above sea level.
